The Summer Fayre of 2006 was held in blistering heat, but luckily the inevitable thunderstorm held off until after the event was complete. The car boot sale on Saturday saw a record 50 stalls - this event just seems to get bigger and bigger. The variety of entertainment at the Summer Fayre on Sunday also gets more diverse each year. The stars of the weekend, the scarecrows, were out in their usual numbers, with about a hundred and fifty in total. Although this is the seventh year of the Trail, standards are certainly maintained, and this year's entry were a bumper crop in both quality and quantity. Voting this year was closer than it has been for a while, reflecting the large number of really good entries. Just out in front was the very innovative I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here, with Ant and Dec visible only through the binoculars, closely followed by Hen Party from H.J. Lea Oakes. The full list of prize-winners is given below: |

Congratulations and heartfelt thanks once more to everybody who made a scarecrow - without your wonderful efforts there would be no trail. A particular mention must be made of W.P.C. Speedy, who stood in at short notice after her colleague was kidnapped. Thankfully this was the only major incident of the fortnight. All 150 or so scarecrow photos are available below. This includes a considerable number of additional scarecrows that were not entered for the event, so were not in the event guide. We have resisted the temptation to increase the size of images, so dial-up users can still download them in a reasonable time, but we have reduced the compression slightly to increase quality. We have broken the scarecrow listing down into several pages, following the maps in the printed scarecrow programme. This stops any one page taking too long to download.
